July 1 Update from the Pension Boards

Dear Friends,

I pray that you continue to be well and safe.

When the office closure began on March 16, none of us anticipated that we would still be working from home at this time. Now, the summer is in full swing, and we are coming up on the Fourth of July at the end of this week. Please note that the Pension Boards will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day, reopening on Monday, July 6.

Although this is a short week for many, I do want to share with you two important information items.

  • 1. Non-annuitized Annuity Plan members who have made personal employee contributions to their accounts and who have been impacted financially by COVID-19 as defined in the CARES Act may be eligible for hardship withdrawals between now and the end of the year. Please see the article below for additional information.
  • 2. The transition to the new UCC Medicare Advantage Plan w/Rx will take place in six months, on January 1. Please see the message below, with a link to view a video with an overview of the plan.

We wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and safe holiday.

NEW! COVID-Related Hardship Withdrawals

Under the CARES Act, members who have been financially impacted by COVID-19 (as defined in the Act) are eligible to take hardship withdrawals from their retirement accounts. The following provisions apply for members of the Annuity Plan for the United Church of Christ:

  • Members may request hardship withdrawals only from their personal employee pre-tax contributions (also known as contributions to the tax-sheltered annuity or TSA).
  • Members may withdraw up to 50% of their account balances, with a maximum of $100,000.

Members who qualify for a withdrawal under these provisions may contact our Member Services team for more information by calling 1.800.642.6543 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. UCC Medicare Advantage Plan w/ Rx

Earlier this year, the Benefits Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Pension Boards selected Humana, Inc. as the UCC Medical Plan’s vendor partner to administer a new UCC Medicare Advantage Plan w/Rx, effective January 1, 2021. The new plan will replace the current UCC Medicare Supplement Plan w/Rx.

In the video presentation below our Health Plan Team discusses the new Plan, including new benefits that will be available, such as Silver Sneakers membership and coverage for illness during international travel. Also watch for more information by mail and email in the coming months.
