CREDO ColmanPearls for the Journey: Realize Your Importance
By Rev. Kenneth Colman*

When the Rev. Dr. Jane Heckles, Coordinator for the Pension Boards-United Church of Christ CREDO (PBUCC CREDO) program, invited me to participate in the week-long Seminar, I had already begun the introspective work of reviewing both the psychological and spiritual areas of my life.  I was also starting a new ministry, so it was a good time to continue this deep reflective work.

During the Seminar, we were offered time and space to consider thoughtfully and prayerfully our lives as a whole. One day as I was journaling my thoughts, I came to realize how important I was and how I have neglected to care for myself. The personal quiet time and Seminar assignments were necessary in helping me open my spirit and become a better person, husband, and father.

Since PBUCC CREDO, I have returned to a hobby I love, photography. I have taken two classes and I’m taking time to go out and shoot. More importantly, this Seminar helped bring balance back into my life. I realized that I took care of everyone but myself. Because of this experience, I have started to lose weight and I see myself as important to take better care of myself. Overall, the experience has enhanced my life and ministry.
